Kenneth F. von Roenn, Jr., President
of Architectural Glass Art, Inc. and co-founder of Glassworks
has been named as one of the “Top 25 People Making a Difference
in the Arts in the Midwest” by dialogue Magazine in the
May/June 2003 issue.
About vonRoenn
vonRoenn began his career in glass in 1970 at Louisville Art Glass,
which was then owned by his father-in-law. In 1991, he bought
the Louisville Art Glass Studio and renamed it Architectural
Glass Art, Inc. He expanded and reorganized the company redirecting
its focus on new roles for glass in architecture. He serves as
head designer and president, managing a staff of twenty-five.
In the late 90’s, vonRoenn’s desire to expand the
studio led to his search for a new space. During this period,
he joined with a group of developers and investors interested
in the revitalization of downtown Louisville as well as our region’s
firm commitment to the arts. The group, guided by vonRoenn’s
vision of a multipurpose glass facility, formulated a concept
for what is now known as Glassworks. From the original idea of
a new home for Architectural Glass Art, vonRoenn and his partners
have created a space for many glass artists to work and sell their
art. vonRoenn has stated that “It is our goal to expand
the public’s awareness of the magic, mystery, and beauty
of glass as well as to cultivate and nurture the work of glass
artists.”
The primary objective of Glassworks is to further develop and
expand our region’s glass tradition by establishing a center
where a broad variety of glass artists and craftspeople work together
and learn from each other, and to acquaint the public with the
excitement of glass. As such, Glassworks hopes to become a singularly
unique center for glass art where a range of techniques is practiced.
These techniques include architectural glass, cast glass, blown
glass, kiln-formed glass, fused glass, lampworking, sandblasting,
glass painting, and laminated art glass.
