About Glassworks
Glassworks is a multi-use facility located in the heart of Downtown Louisville and dedicated to the art of glass featuring 3 working glass studios, a glass gallery, a walk-in workshop, daily tours, events spaces, commercial spaces, apartments, condos, and much more!
Glassworks opened its doors in 2001 as it was brought to life by developer Bill Weyland (City Properties Group). He sought to convert the old Snead Manufacturing building into a new multi-use facility that included a glass center, commercial real estate, and residential living; making it a place for visitors and residents 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Glassworks is one hot attraction. It is the only facility of its kind in the country, bringing together an array of glass artists and galleries in one location and providing visitors with a rich portrayal of the magic, mystery and beauty of glass.
Tour the flameworking, architectural glass, and glassblowing studios and learn about the extensive variety of artistic glass working techniques through the demonstrating artists. Watch Glassblowers pull molten glass from a 2200 degree furnace and transform it into beautiful works of art. See Flameworkers use glass rods and a propane torch to change glass rods into delicate forms. Watch Architectural Glass artists work with cold glass to create all encompassing glass environments, sculptures and much more.
Glassworks offers opportunities for the public to enter the glassblowing studio or the Walk-In Workshop and try their hand at creating their very own work of glass art, with the assistance of the resident artists.
Visit the Glassworks Gallery to see work by the resident artists as well as distinctive works in glass from prominent national and international artists. For those who desire a more intimate experience, Glassworks offers ongoing classes and workshops.
